About Lorem Ipsum Generator

Lorem ipsum is the standard placeholder text used by designers, typesetters, and writers since the 1500s. It's a scrambled, vaguely-Latin passage that gives a realistic sense of how a block of body copy will look — the right mix of word lengths, the right rough sentence rhythm — without the eye being distracted by actual meaning. That makes it perfect for filling mockups, testing typography, sizing print layouts, and stress-testing UI components against realistic paragraph lengths.

Plain English placeholder ("the quick brown fox…" or "sample text here") doesn't fool the eye the same way; readers can't help reading along instead of evaluating the design. Lorem ipsum lets you check that your headings, line lengths, and grid behave correctly under realistic copy.

How to use

Pick what kind of block you want from the "Type" dropdown — paragraphs, sentences, or words — and set "How many" to the count you need.

By default the result starts with the canonical "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit" opening, which is what most designers expect; untick "Start with Lorem ipsum…" if you'd rather get straight to randomised content.   • Where does "Lorem ipsum" come from?

    It's a scrambled passage from Cicero's "De finibus bonorum et malorum", written around 45 BC. A 15th-century typesetter is thought to have first used a garbled version of it as filler text in a type specimen book; the practice survived and the same scrambled Latin became the de facto placeholder text of typography.

  • Why not use plain English placeholder text?

    Because readers can't help reading along, which pulls attention away from layout and typography decisions. Lorem ipsum has the right rhythm, word lengths, and letter-frequency distribution to look like body copy without anyone trying to parse what it says — exactly what you want when evaluating a design.

  • How is the output randomised?

    Words are drawn at random from a fixed Latin-style word list; sentences are randomly 6–18 words long with the occasional comma; paragraphs are 3–6 sentences. Each click of "Re-roll" produces a new random sample. The result is intentionally chaotic — it should never accidentally form readable phrases.

  • Will lorem ipsum hurt SEO if it accidentally gets published?

    A bit. Google can recognise lorem ipsum and likely treats pages containing it as "low quality" placeholder. It won't crash your site, but search ranking suffers and the page is unlikely to appear for any meaningful query. Replace placeholder copy before going live.
